People’s choice ‘10 recap

Welcome to the 2010 People’s Choice Awards!

picture-12picture-30

So if you didn’t know, I was hired to work as a Production Assistant (PA) for the 2010 People’s Choice Awards.  How does one get a job like this one might ask.  Well, I had a friend who hired me for the Miss Universe Competition.  I then made another friend working that event who then hired me for this event.  And during this event I booked another event called MusiCares (more on that event probably later).

I apologize for the long delay, but I’ve been super busy with moving, and working and working.  I still have yet to write my post on the fact that i’m an Uncle.  Okay enough about that and onto the highlights.

So the events that lead up to show day were not all that exciting.  I dealt with parking, and credentials.  While outside, my skin got to be SO dry.  I honestly kept telling myself i need to put lotion and chapstick on.  One of the VERY few times i would ever tell myself that or anyone else for that matter.  I also made a propane tank run (ya that’s nerve racking having a full tank of propane in your trunk ready to be used for a fork truck.  And a lunch run.  Oh, I did get to move the Awards when they arrived.  Granted they were in boxes and I was not able to see them :(

SHOW DAY!!!!

I honestly didn’t think I was going to be a part of the show because i was outside handing credentials.  But out of the blue guess who shows up walking past our table. None other than House.  I don’t know his real name.  This was quite odd because we are stationed in a parking garage across from the Nokia Theater.  I guess his talent guide got lost or had no idea where to hide him.  He seemed to be a pretty nice guy and wrote autographs when asked.

So after that event, it seemed like that was pretty much the only excitement for the night.  Boy was I wrong.  Granted it didn’t happen until the show was halfway over, but none the less it was pretty exciting.

Now prior to the end of the show, some of the award winners would leave prior to the end of the show.  While this happened, some of the security would escort the people to there cars.  Well apparently the paparazzi and “common folk” got to be too large.  So i offered my services for a while.  The following are some of the individuals that I got to escort to their cars.

picture-25 Him (He’s on true blood)

picture-20Her (but nobody tried to take a picture, i don’t know who she is)

picture-23Him and Seth Green where in a group (i totally almost went “Oh Know!! They took Zuess”

picture-7aThe Group

picture-a19 and Mariah Carey.  Her Dress was amazing (I don’t normally observe things like this.  but i’m sure it was expensive.  I didn’t know she was married to Nick Cannon.  But he was there, I totally should have hit him up and said thanks for Drumline! No joke!  I love that kind of stuff!

After all that excitement I had to go run inside for something.  And right as I start to walk inside i see a huge production crew with a camera so i hug wall and guess who i’m starring at.

picture-17

I thought i was clear from the camera’s but obviously there was a side camera that got me.

picture-16I’m on this side against the wall. Someone is holding some paper in front of me.

In case that wasn’t enough here is the blurp she did.

So after she gets done shooting i walk inside and start walking down the stairs behind

picture-16aChristian Slater.  I so didn’t think of it, but later wanted to thank him for being in such an amazing movie that took Nintendo (8-bit) to the next level by introducing Super Mario 3 and the Power Glove!

INTERMISSION (FYI i don’t think there was an intermission on the show but just taking some time to share some side notes)

picture-26 I got to walk up these stairs

picture-a15 For most of the week i kept seeing a roadcase that said “KeyTar” I was quite excited!

picture-8 The black and white footage was shot in a dressing room across from the production office.

I really wish I had pics to post with the building of the whole venue from scratch.  It was pretty stinking amazing!

AND WHERE BACK!!!!!!

So after doing some more security detail I got called to do some security detail to make sure that nobody went up on stage after the show ended.

During at which time I got to walk on stage while Johnny Depp was receiving his Decade Achievement award.

picture-a20

picture-10I got to enter stage left (that’s this side) And when i got off the stage and into position to run to my post I saw images like this.

picture-15apicture-32

The views don’t honestly give it enough punch.  It was pretty stinking cool the view I had of the audience.

Then the show ended and all the confetti started shooting out.

picture-12It’s hard to see, but i’m right behind where the confetti is shooting out.

picture-29I then got to my post.

picture-a16At which this point this girls butt bumped into my hand as i was monitoring my walkie level.  (i guess she was a girl selected by the “people” to give out the awards and win a makeover.)  Someone was walking up to her, and saw me, and asked me if he could get her autograph.  You should have seen him.  He was all nervous and like in his late 20’s.  As he was asking for her autograph i just shook my head no.  He was crushed.  Maybe i should get into the Security Business!  Where i crush the dreams of hopeful minds?  Tempting!!!

So then the credits started rolling.  And i tried looking for my name, but I got added last, so I was not amongst the comrades.  But none the less here are some of the cool peeps i got to work with!

(Pages are in no particular order)

picture-38This is the page i should have been added too.  All well.  Lets hope IMDB adds me some day.

picture-35Ruzzo got his own PAGE!!!!  WOOT WOOT!!!!

picture-36

It was awesome to work with some of the old Miss Universe Crew, Lambert, Joannie, Jamie, Ruzzo.  And it was cool to meet new people.  Which oddly enough saw Birch at the Critics Choice Movie Awards, and will be working with Jason at MusiCares.  Thanks for the hookup Jason!

So having done two award shows in the past 3 weeks, and going on 3, Its pretty cool watching the award shows (which i’ve NEVER done in the past) for all the tech aspects.  Remebering what i was doing at certain points, like walking the hallway remembering hearing Queen Latifah announce something as I was running a walkie battery to the house.  etc etc.  I just watched the latter half of critics choice awards, so maybe i’ll do a little synopsis on that one as well.

Cya on the flip side!!
